Question: Do I need experience to even audition? Answer: Not at all ! Casting decisions are more about attitude, potential, and willingness to take direction. Beginners are encouraged to try out. Question: I would love to join and participate in a play, but I hesitate due to fear of forgetting my lines. Answers: Nobody is perfect ! Many of our events are designed for folks who have those fears. There are forms of entertainment that don't require strict memorization of lines. Our recent merger with "Radio Airwaves" provides an opportunity to perform old-time radio shows with the setting of a radio recording studio featuring the actors with scripts in hand and techs working the sound effects. The actors and audience interact in a relaxed environment. Everyone has a great time ! Question: I am too self-conscious and would blow the audition so why should I try out? Answer: Our auditions are usually in small groups so that you would not be "alone" during the process and that creates a more relaxed, creative and informal setting. Your best audition is to "simply be yourself." Question: I love plays and musicals, but I would not want to be on stage so what's available for someone like me? Answer: It takes a village....our organization is about 50% performers and 50% people who work in the background with set design, ticket sales, director's assistants, costume assistants, stage managers, lighting and sound techs, media and advertising assistance, just to name a few. Often, family members support the actors by participating in the background. It is a great way to meet new people who share a common interest in all aspects of theater. Question: It sounds like fun, but I can't commit to the time? Answer: That's not an issue. If you are able to commit to a particular event but not be available for all events, the Players can accommodate your schedule. Some of our members are seasonal workers so their commitment is limited to "off season." Question: I don't think I am good enough to perform with a theater group so why should I audition? Answer: You would really be surprised at the number of performers that have never been or were in productions 20-30 years ago. Our membership is made up of people who are just like you. The willingness to "try something new" is always a good direction to go !! Some members also started out in supporting roles backstage and moved eventually to the stage. Others, seem to prefer the entire process and the excitement of bringing the words on the page onto the stage but only in supporting roles or backstage. Question: Where do you perform? Answer: The OP Players do not own a stand-alone theater at this time. Our comedies, dramas, cabarets, original historical and holiday shows are performed in a hall provided by a local church. Some of our other productions are performed in smaller venues or museums that are available in the greater Worcester County area. Question: What is meant by Historical and Holiday shows? Answer: The OP Players love to celebrate "characters" and the historical ones are researched, written and performed for the community. Most recent was the original show, "Petticoat Regime" at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum that told of the women who founded Ocean City, MD for the enjoyment of families. The story described the unique circumstances around the very early days of OCMD. The audiences loved the entertainment and a bit of history played out near the Boardwalk Inlet. Holidays too are great fun to celebrate with Christmas inspired shows. The most recent being Ken Ludwig's "T'was the Night Before Christmas" in 2019. The show featured many children from the Ocean Pines area and everyone had a great time, on and off the stage. There's always an opportunity to celebrate the RED, WHITE and BLUE with family and friends participating in songs and storytelling for the USA Birthday Celebrations. So you can see, the creativity within the Ocean Pines Players is varied and exciting. For our new season, we will be featuring original recreations of famous women who have impacted our history. Our planning for summer 2021 will include Pageparticipation in a Renaissance Faire in the historic Furnace Town area near Snow Hill, MD. We encourage you to schedule an appointment for auditioning or CONTACT US to discuss potential participation.
